Bob Schwenk, 64, is a hero to the Decordial family and other residents in an apartment building at the Beltline and Midvale Boulevard.
When the part-time caretaker and resident of the 52-unit property saw smoke in the hall Thursday afternoon, he knocked on his neighbors' doors to alert them to the fire.
"I was kind of scared," Schwenk said. "I wanted to run, but I didn't."
No fire alarm was sounding at the time, residents said.
"Bob saved everybody," Lewis Decordial said. "We were all just watching TV."
