A guitar concerto written by a heartsick Spaniard and a symphony written by a homesick Czech will be featured in the Eugene Symphony's March concert, this Thursday at the Hult Center.
Guest conductor Sergio Bernal will lead the orchestra in Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, with David Tanenbaum as the guitar soloist. Antonin Dvorak's "New World" Symphony is also on the program.
Rodrigo's composition is "by far the most popular guitar concerto ever written," Tanenbaum says, "and one of the most popular concertos of the 20th century for any instrument.''
