Silicone rubber moulding is a specialist area where manufacturers in high-cost countries can still make a good profit. This was the message from the Engel moulders' group seminar in Warwick at the start of February.
Andrew Brash, speaking on behalf of the UK small business consortium, and proprietor of Fulcruman Ltd, gave attendees a series of practical tips on what to avoid when processing silicone rubber. He divided the liquid silicone rubber (LSR) sector into two segments: small and large unit volumes. In the latter case, he said, it was important to buy the best technology you can afford.
