No matter how ingenious today's computer designers are, palms and pockets are still a lot smaller than desktops. Until the introduction of Hewlett-Packard's 95LX a couple of years ago, using a machine smaller than a notebook required making major sacrifices.
Picking up a Sharp Wizard, Casio B.O.S.S., or similar palmtop-sized personal organizer meant adopting a proprietary operating system and having to leave your favorite MS-DOS programs at the office. It also meant that any files created on your miniature computer tended to stay there, except for some organizers' optional PC file-transfer cables and ASCII export utilities.
