When he heard that the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) would honor James Garner with its Life Achievement Award, The Rockford Files producer Stephen J. Cannell said Garner was "an amazing star" and "just one of the guys"--both at the same time.

SAG said recently it would honor Garner, a former SAG vice president and board member, at the eleventh Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on February 5, 2005.
