FIFTY years ago, a thriving Jewish congregation proudly built a synagogue in the heart of the prosperous south Liverpool suburb of Allerton. Now, though, as the jewish community in the city has become smaller, this once-loved building has fallen into disrepair.
However, it is hoped a pounds 3m deal with the Liverpool Jewish Housing Association (LJHA) will change that and help the congregation prosper once more.
The plan is that Allerton synagogue will be bulldozed and replaced with a smaller one. The extra space left over will be used for flats for elderly people from the local area.
