The one writing tool missing from this column is any mention of the dreaded Grammar and Style Checker. There's a simple reason: I am of the personal opinion that they were all created for the singular purpose of taking writers content with their abilities and convincing them that they can't even write the copy on a gum wrapper.
Of course, there are those who disagree with this assessment, and with good reason. However, I'm writing this column and they're not. Instead of laying out 80 bucks for a program that tells me how badly I write (after all, I have editors who tell me that and pay me, besides), I have Editorial Advisor on my hard drive.
