Denver is planning the most sweeping renovation and expansion of the landmark Civic Center district since the city and county building went up in 1932.
The aim is to transform the sometimes tawdry area into a new front door for downtown.
Already in the works are plans to change the character of the park at the heart of Civic Center, turning it into a lively outdoor 'living room' that would draw hundreds of people during the day to concerts, performances and other events. A fund-raising drive will soon be launched to raise more than $25 million to pay for the overhaul of the park.
