Horticulturists who started out with white and blue varieties 15 years ago have finally produced the flower named Midnight Mystique.
Seven years ago, the Ipswich based seed firm Thompson and Morgan paid an astonishing [pounds sterling]50,000 each for three bulbs produced by a leading Dutch grower.
And now following further hybridisation the black hyacinth is ready to be sold to the public in special presentation boxes at a daunting [pounds sterling]7.99 each - at least ten times the price of a common or garden ...
