WASHINGTON -- The sixth edition of Dietary Guidelines for Americans places stronger emphasis on reducing calorie consumption and increasing physical activity than previous reports.
It is a joint project of the Department of the Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture.
In announcing the new guidelines in January then-HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson noted that they represent the best science-based advice to help Americans live healthier and longer lives.
