Rudell Bowling's love affair with building model ships from scratch began as a young boy in Cincinnati, when he made wood boats to sail in street gutters after a rainstorm.
"I was reared in the Depression, and I made my own toys," said Bowling, who with his wife of 63 years, Louise, raised a daughter and son.
R.B., or Rudy as he is referred to by family and friends, turned that childhood fascination into building authentic ship models from scratch as a hobby.
He said it takes three to five years to build a ship in the basement of his Latonia home. He's in no hurry. He does a lot of research ...
