Jesus Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the disciples spent Holy Saturday on that first Holy Week, weeping for the Crucified Christ as He lay buried in a tomb lent by a friend, Joseph of Arimathea, following His crucifixion on Good Friday.
Since the early days of the church, Holy Saturday has served as the bridge between the despair of Good Friday and the promised joy of Easter Sunday.
There are no church rites today as the Christian world passes the day in silent mourning for the interred Christ.
