With the remodeling of their old kitchen and dining room, Carol and Shin Murnane of Brattle Road, in Syracuse, have one big room they enjoy year-round.
"We only used the dining room twice a year," said Carol, who is a nurse on a medical surgical unit at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. "This is a room we enjoy 365 days a year."
With their adult children and grandchildren living out of town, the room is a special gathering place for homecomings, especially during the holidays.
"I love to see the little ones sitting at the island eating their Cheerios," said Carol about her four grandchildren.
