Mar. 28--VIRGINIA BEACH -- Some single men in the market for Ms. Right would simply practice pick-up lines and settle for blind dates and bar cruising.
Ash Gilpin built his own online dating site.
"I figured if I was going to date online, I might as well run the site myself," he said. "That way, I get first dibs."
Nearly a year ago, Gilpin launched HRDating.com, a Web site dedicated to bringing Hampton Roads singles together. About 1,400 people from Williamsburg to the Outer Banks have signed up for the site, said Gilpin, who mostly markets the site through events, online advertising and word of mouth.
