Spring seems to be running a little late this year. We've hardly seen the crocuses, much less the daffodils or tulips, and yet it's already time to start thinking about the summer-blooming bulbs, the cannas, callas, tuberous begonias, dahlias and gladiolus.
These showy plants love warm weather. They add an exotic touch to the summer garden. Both their colors (often hot scarlets, oranges, pinks and golds) and their forms are about as far from the usual sedate shrubs and perennials as you can get. Many have interesting variegated or dark foliage as well.
