The lifting of the Over Thirty Months (OTM) beef restrictions, widely expected later this year, will not mean a return of a total ban on beef on the bone.

Meat and Livestock Commission international manager Peter Hardwick said the rule change could mean the vertebral column would need to be removed from some carcases, but added: "There have been some misleading articles appearing in newspapers saying there will be a return to a total ban on beef on the bone, which is not true."
