The "historic cost" option of the new international financial reporting standards could potentially be removed. That is the opinion of John Edge, of the International Valuation Standards Committee. Edge claims the aspect of the standards which allows companies to choose between recording the value of property at fair value or at the historic cost could eventually be removed altogether. Edge has pointed out that some countries have not had fair-value accounting.
