SEATTLE, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- King County Medical Blue Shield (KCM), the state's largest health care service contractor, announced today it will join a demonstration project sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The project, begun in 1991, supports randomized, controlled clinical trials comparing high-dose chemotherapy with autologous bone marrow transplant (HDC/ABMT) with standard therapy in the treatment of breast cancer. The effectiveness of HDC/ABMT has been the subject of controversy and litigation across the country in recent years.
