Mar. 30--MADISON -- Wisconsin's record high gas prices will be nudged slightly higher Friday, when the annual spring increase in the state gas tax raises that levy 0.8 cents per gallon -- to a record 29.9 cents per gallon.
The 0.8-cent tax increase will cost drivers an estimated $26 million more a year, according to the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau.
The gas tax will bring in about $1 billion a year, including Friday's scheduled increase. It and the annual $55 per-car registration fee account for most of the state's income for transportation programs -- cash desperately needed to pay for statewide highway ...
