Abstract
The wood quality and potential for production of structural timbers from reclaimed utility poles were investigated. The objectives were to determine if the basic wood quality had changed due to service, to develop a notion of probable design values that could be expected for timbers sawn from reclaimed Douglas-fir utility poles, and to assess the relationship between design properties obtained from small, clear specimens and full-size visually graded timbers. Pressure-treated Douglas-fir utility poles retired from service were sampled.
