PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK (1975)
Story: Made with a cast of unknowns about an obscure event, this didn't seem destined to be a big worldwide hit. But the atmospheric tale of three students and a schoolteacher who disappear on an excursion to Hanging Rock, in Victoria, on Valentine's Day 1900, became a smash. Director Peter Weir, who went on to direct Master And Commander and Dead Poets Society, was rightly acclaimed for creating a tense, atmospheric piece.
