Mar. 31--After more than 10 years, West Kentucky Corporation has closed because of state funding cuts.

The WKC is charged with promoting tourism and assisting with industrial recruitment in the 45 counties that comprise the western half of the state.

"I hope someone will miss us," said Debby Spencer, tourism development specialist at the Bowling Green office. The group also had an office in Murray.

Spencer said that the more than 25 tourism projects running under WKC will have homes at other county or city tourism programs, will be taken over by state agencies in Frankfort or will be continued by some of the staff ...
