Telecoms regulators are to clamp down on premium-rate scams by imposing new regulations on service providers.
Emergency measures to curb phone fraud are to be introduced within weeks, according to a spokesman for the Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services (ICSTIS).
At present, once money is transferred from a network to a service provider, there is no way of returning it. But the proposed changes would allow customers to claim refunds if they have been a victim of fraud.
