The first pope to carry the message of Christianity to every corner of the Earth has died.
Pope John Paul II, 84, died Saturday.
He was the most traveled pope in history, visiting more than 142 countries on 104 trips outside Italy.
A symbol of holiness, a minister to the poor and a champion of peace, John Paul also was a poet, mountain climber, skier, actor, writer, and philosopher with a magnificent intellect.
He was known for his rapport with the young, who at his rallies gave him the wild enthusiasm usually reserved for rock stars.
