JUPITER, Fla. _ Before most morning workouts, Tony La Russa walks into the middle of the St. Louis Cardinals' spring clubhouse to deliver the day's homily. The message is usually brief. When it's all about baseball, the 60-year-old manager carries his painted red fungo as a pointer, a back brace or a walking stick. Sometimes the monologue is curt, sometimes poignant. On occasion a celebrity Friend Of Tony such as Bill Parcells or Robert Montgomery Knight or a retired general will show up to speak.
