HE died with the word "Amen" on his lips - and yesterday Pope John Paul II's serene face defied the agony of his drawn-out death.
The last poignant moments of the 84-year-old Pontiff, now likely to be known as "The Great," were revealed as millions prepared to file past his body as it lies in state before his burial later this week.
Staring towards a window overlooking St Peter's Square, Rome, John Paul had held the hand of his faithful secretary of 40 years, Archbishop Stanislao Dziwisz.
