His June 1999-through-November 2003 tenure was highlighted by his accepting Vibe's 2002 National Magazine Award for "General Excellence" (500,000 to 1 million circulation) for issues that included the November 2001 tribute to the late singer Aaliyah (min, October 1, 2001).
