Apr. 5--MEADVILLE -- Mass consumer goods are the past. Innovative products with niche or specialty markets are the future for the region's manufacturers.
And traditional manufacturing itself will become a niche or specialty within the larger economy, according to a group of business leaders discussing "Manufacturing in the Heartland: Can we Compete?" at Allegheny College's fourth annual executive roundtable.
The business leaders said the answer to the basic question is yes, but that it will require changes. The manufacturing of tomorrow will be different than that of today, which is different than that of a generation ...
