If you'd asked me 10 years ago to set up a shared Internet connection for multiple PCs using a router, Ethernet switch, firewall and a wireless access point (AP), you'd have got a distinctly blank, or even scared, look. Apart from the fact that I wouldn't have had a clue what this 'Internet' thing was, I firmly believed that routers and switches were homes for the tiny imps and demons carrying the data packets along the Ethernet cables, and as such could only be safely touched by people friendly with those creatures.
