The College Art Association recently presented its awards for academic and artistic achievement at its annual meeting, held in Atlanta in February. The Frank Jewett Mather Award for excellence in art criticism went to Garth Clark, best known as an art dealer but also a prolific writer on modern and contemporary ceramics. Islamic art scholar Oleg Grabar won the lifetime achievement award for writing on art. The Alfred H. Barr, Jr., Award for museum scholarship was given to Helen C. Evans, curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, for the catalogue that accompanied "Byzantium: Faith and Power (1261-1557)."
