HATS. Some people can carry them off, others - men, generally-speaking - should be carried off and locked up for even thinking about attempting to wear themA shame, really, because with the right threads (a good suit), in the appropriate era (the 1940s and 50s), a trilby or panama cut such a dash.
Even in the 60s, especially if you were called Jon Voigt and wore a tassled suede jacket and preposterous cowboy boots, you could get away with the occasional stetson in a big city like New York.
