NEW TENANT: Richmond Mayor L. Douglas Wilder has announced plans for a $300 million Philip Morris USA Research and Development center in the city's biotech research park.
NEW ENGINES: Citing continued growth in freight traffic, Norfolk Southern Corp. said it is nearly doubling its 2005 locomotive order, adding an additional 50 to its original order of 52 locomotives. The Norfolk-based railroad will buy the six-axle, 4,000-horsepower locomotives from General Electric Transportation Rail. The 102 locomotives will increase Norfolk Southern's fleet to nearly 4,000.
