Italian pay TV service, Sky Italia, will benefit from its coverage of the death of Pope John Paul II. Sky Italia, owned by News Corporation, was launched in August 2003. It has about 3.2 million subscribers. CEO, Australian Tom Mockridge, said its 24- hour news channel, Sky TG24, had provided full-time coverage since it was announced that the pope was gravely ill. It is also utilising two extra "active" news channels. Viewing has increased sixfold since the pope's death. The blanket coverage will continue until a new pope is elected.
