Joe Gothard proved himself capable of leading a prep football program to great heights in five years as Madison La Follette's coach.
Now, Gothard is intrigued by the challenge of trying to do the same thing for an entire school.
That's why Gothard announced his resignation Wednesday as the Lancers' coach to pursue administrative opportunities. He serves as the dean of students at La Follette, but is looking to become a principal in the Madison School District and would have needed a "memorandum of understanding" from Madison Teachers Inc. to continue coaching as an administrator.
