With three adaptations already, English novelist Nick Hornby is a golden guy for American movies - probably because his British scenarios are easy culture transplants for Yank scenarios.
"Fever Pitch," like Hornby's earlier "High Fidelity" with John Cusack, is such a case. Co-screenwriter Babaloo Mandel recalled, "Producer Alan Greenspan bought the rights to Nick's book and gave it to us and said, `Read it and see if there's an American movie here.'
