Apr. 13--A customer walks in to Top Hat Supply Co. on Tuesday morning with a vexing cleaning problem: how to remove the residue left behind in a home from more than a quarter century of heavy smoking.
Joe Sciacca, Top Hat's owner, takes the man across the store's small Pearl Street showroom -- stacked high with cleaning solvents, soaps, broom heads, mop handles and other supplies -- and shows him a dry pad designed to remove nicotine film from walls.
The customer thanks Sciacca and leaves, saying he's not yet ready to start his cleaning project. Sciacca nods satisfactorily and smiles, confident the man will return.
