Apr. 13--FT. HOOD, Texas -- Two years after the fall of Baghdad, President Bush on Tuesday visited this storied Army base that has lost 146 troops in the conflict in Iraq and he cast soldiers here as spearheads for the nation's "war on terror."

"The terrorists have made Iraq a central front in the war on terror," Bush told thousands of troops assembled outdoors. "Because of your sacrifice, we are defeating them there where they live, so we do not have to face them where we live. Our success in Iraq will make America safer, for us and for future generations."
