TOWER Bridge is to be shut for eight days for repairs to the road surface.
It will shut to traffic between 30 April and 8 May, which could force motorists to enter the congestion charge zone to find an alternative river crossing.
Transport for London said if motorists stick to a signed route, via Southwark and London Bridges, they will not have to pay the [pounds sterling]5 charge. But TfL faces a major logistical challenge to ensure that [pounds sterling]100 penalty tickets are not issued in error, as 40,000 vehicles a day use Tower Bridge.
