Easter bonnets and new clothes get all of the attention, but this holiday always reminds me of shoes. When I was a young lad, Easter Sunday was one of the few days I would actually wear nice shoes.

Greg Giesche, owner of Giesche Shoes in Geneva since 1976 and part of a family that has been in the shoe business since 1890, understands that blast from the past.

"We used to see families buying dress shoes, or nicer shoes, for kids for special occasions - back to school, Thanksgiving and Easter Sunday," Giesche said. "That kind of business has not gone away, but it is not where it used to be because kids tend to wear athletic ...
