BEI Technologies, Inc. reported that for the fiscal 2004 first quarter ended January 3, 2004, earnings were $2,003,000 or $0.14 per share, compared with $2,973,000, or $0.21 per share, in the fiscal 2003 first quarter. Prior year first quarter results included $0.24 in earnings from a net settlement of litigation with the Army in the net amount of $5.4 million. Net sales for the quarter increased to a record $68.8 million compared with $47.1 million in the 2003 first quarter, according to Charles Crocker, chairman and chief executive officer.
