Apr. 16--Wachovia is making a withdrawal out of downtown and putting its money in Midtown's Atlantic Station.
The Charlotte bank told employees Friday it's vacating its offices downtown and consolidating its Atlanta headquarters at the Atlantic Station mini-city on the I-75/85 connector.
As part of the bank's $14.3 billion buyout of SouthTrust Corp., Wachovia will shift more than 1,000 employees around the metro area to different offices. Many of them will be leaving 191 Peachtree Tower, the downtown landmark that has lost three key tenants since 2003.
