Apr. 16--STEWART AIRPORT -- The black Bic lighter left behind by the pay phones at Stewart Airport yesterday was one sign of the times.
So were the dozens that have been "voluntarily abandoned" at the airport's security checkpoint in Days One and Two of the Transportation Security Administration's new ban of lighters on airplanes.
The ban is a safety measure, designed to prevent a terrorist from igniting explosives onboard. And it's caught many travelers by surprise since taking effect Thursday.
