Progress Energy Florida is warning utility customers about scam artists posing as company employees in an attempt to steal hundreds of dollars from unsuspecting individuals.

In recent incidents in the Orlando and St. Petersburg areas, individuals claiming to be Progress Energy employees are phoning residential customers. The callers inform customers their account with Progress Energy is delinquent and offer to pick up a check for the delinquent amount.
