The Sherburne-Earlville school district is the second in Madison County to propose cutting teachers from its 2005-06 budget.
The district's $21,939,652 spending plan, which would raise the tax levy - the total amount of money to be raised by property taxes - by 3.95percent, calls for the elimination of six teachers, Assistant Superintendent Tom Strain said.
The Hamilton school board adopted a $9,083,189 budget plan this week that cut 3.5 teaching positions. That spending plan would raise the tax rate - the amount property owners pay per $1,000 assessed value - by 7.7percent.
