WASHINGTON -- The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is now telling mental health professionals to expect to see substance use with other mental health disorders and to treat both problems at the same time.
The release of "Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) 42: Substance Abuse Treatment for Persons with Co-Occurring Disorder" marks a change in the approach to treating substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders within the mental health community.
