In response to an amendment included by Senator John Breaux (D-LA) to the Prescription Drug and Medicare Improvement Act of 2003 regarding physician ownership and so-called specialty hospitals, MedCath Corporation announced today that although this amendment protects MedCath's hospitals currently in operation and under construction, it is bad public healthcare policy. The Senate Finance Committee approved this legislation last Thursday evening. The House has yet to act on prescription drug legislation.
