The ruling was unanimous, and it was devastating.
The Oregon Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that state statutes have always defined marriage as being between a man and a woman, that voters have reinforced that definition by adding it to the state constitution, and that Multnomah County officials had no right to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples last year.
That's three strikes - gay marriage in Oregon is out.
Justice Michael Gillette's opinion is a model of common sense. Oregon's long-standing marriage law says that, "Marriage is a civil contract entered into in person by males ... and females." ...
