The panel of stewards that oversees racing at Churchill Downs racetrack has completed an investigation into an image on a photograph of the finish of Kentucky Derby 129 and concluded that jockey Jose Santos followed the rules of racing during his winning ride aboard Sackatoga Stable's Funny Cide.
Following a thorough review of still photographs and videotapes collected from various sources and interviews with several individuals -- including Santos himself -- the stewards unanimously concluded on Monday, May 12, that Santos carried nothing in his right hand in the Derby's final yards other than a whip, a piece of equipment permitted by the administrative ...
