FIRSTFED AMERICA BANCORP, INC. (the "Company"), today announced record diluted earnings per share ("EPS") of $2.79 for fiscal year 2003, an increase of 35% from $2.07 for fiscal year 2002. Before an extraordinary loss on early extinguishment of debt and the cumulative effect of the change in accounting for derivative instruments in fiscal year 2002, diluted EPS was $2.25. Diluted EPS for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2003 was $0.71, an increase of 82% from $0.39 per share for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2002. Before the extraordinary loss in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2002, diluted EPS was $0.48.
