Apr. 18--CENTER TWP. -- They arrive every day: the heartbroken and the fed-up, the do-gooders and the just-doing-their-jobs. They bring animals they can't or won't keep to the Beaver County Humane Society.

The shelter worker manning the counter will ask for a donation. If they can give money, fine. If not, the shelter will take the animals anyway. That adds up to a big free perk for residents and municipalities of Beaver County.

Last year, residents and police officers brought 2,762 stray animals to the shelter. In addition, pet owners relinquished 2,087 animals to the humane society.
